Elbow - Grounds for Divorce / New album

Mondays is for drinking to the seldom seen kid

I've been working on a cocktail called Grounds for Divorce
Whoah
Polishing a compass that I hold in my sleep
Whoah
Doubt comes in on sticks but then he kicks like a horse
Whoah
There's a Chinese cigarette case
And the rest you can keep
And the rest you can keep
And the rest you can keep

There's a hole in my neighbourhood down which of late I cannot help but fall
There's a hole in my neighbourhood down which of late I cannot help but fall

Mondays is for drinking to the seldom seen kid
Oooo
Oooo

There's this whispering of jokers doing flesh by the pound
To a chorus of supposes from the little town hoods
There'll be twisted karaokee at the aniseed lounge
And I'll bring you further roses
But it does you no good
And it does me no good
And it does you no good

There's a hole in my neighbourhood down which of late I cannot help but fall
There's a hole in my neighbourhood down which of late I cannot help but fall
There's a hole in my neighbourhood down which of late I cannot help but fall

Someday we'll be drinking with the seldom seen kid
Oooo
Oooo

This might be Elbow's most famous song. It's about their friend Bryan Glancy (seldom seen kid) who died when they worked on this album called "The seldom seen Kid" .
The "hole" in the Neighbourhood is a tiny bar in Manchester, where all the Elbow members come from and it could also be seen as a reference to the hole that their deceased friend left.
Also this song deals with the problems of constant drinking and gambling which are the death to every marriage in the end.
But now Elbow released their new album "Build a rocket, boys ". The songs are quieter and there's not such a smash hit as Grounds of Divorce on it. I believe you need to hear it several times, it has to unravel and develop until you find the treasures. And it's worth to listen to their previous records. The singer Guy Garvey has an amazing voice which reminds me so much on Peter Gabriel at his best times. Garvey himself admitts that Gabriel was one of his major influences. And Gabriel covered "Mirrorball" ( one of my favorite Elbow songs) for his latest record "Scratch my back".

Here are the lyrics from the new single "Open Arms"

You're a law unto yourself
And we don't suffer dreamers
But neither should you walk the earth alone

So with finger rolls and folding chairs
And a volley of streamers
We can be there for tweaks and repairs
Should you come back home

We got open arms for broken hearts
Like yours my boy, come home again

Tables are for pounding here
And when we've got you surrounded
The man you are will know the boy you were

And you're not the man who fell to earth
You're the man of La Mancha
And we've love enough to light the street
'Cause everybody's here

We got open arms for broken hearts
Like yours my boy, come home again
We got open arms for broken hearts
Like yours my boy, come home again

Everyone's here
Everyone's here
The moon is out looking for trouble
And everyone's here

Everyone's here
Everyone's here
The moon wants a scrap or a cuddle
And everyone's here

We got open arms for broken hearts
Like yours my boy, come home again
We got open arms for broken hearts
Like yours my boy, come home again

Everyone's here
Everyone's here
Everyone's here
Come home again

The moon is out looking for trouble
The moon wants a scrap or a cuddle
The moon is face down in a puddle
And everyone's here

I'm looking forward to see this great band this summer live on stage !!!
